Summer 2018 Plans
Jun 01, 2018
The 2017-2018 school year is finished and now it is time to set our minds on SUMMER! Each summer, we stick with a bare minimum of academics to keep skills fresh and routines in place.
Our summer lasts roughly from mid-May to sometime after July 4th when we start our new school year.
Here is what I have planned for the summer weeks (and until we are settled in our new home):
Hymn Study
I grew up on hymns and I want my children exposed to them, so this summer, we are going to do a hymn study called Hymns for a Kid’s Heart! There is a story about the hymn as well as a CD to play the hymns.
Scripture Memory
Every month, we have a Bible verse that we memorize. June’s Bible verse is: 1 John 1:9, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Little Bug
Little Bug needs to keep working through Christian Light Education Math Level 2. She has started LU207. We will have to begin the new year in Level 2, but that is the beauty of homeschooling: we are going at her pace.
I am not sure if we will get to this, but I am really trying to get the basic addition facts memorized with Little Bug! This looks like a fun way to do it with games and activities instead of drilling flashcards (which we do plenty of too!), so I would like to give this a try and see if it helps her retain the higher facts.
Sweet Pea
Sweet Pea has a few more lessons in Math Lessons for a Living Education Level 1 that I want her to finish this summer.
We are also going to keep working through Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. Sweet Pea has almost cracked the code to reading! She has made remarkable progress in phonics and reading skills in just the first 40 lessons of this book!
Read Alouds
I will continue to read aloud to the girls this summer. It’s one of our favorite times of the day! Heading in to June, we are reading Homer Price together!
Moving
Another big component of Summer 2018 will be moving! We should close on Majestic sometime on or before June 22nd. Then we will need to do some minimal work before moving (replace carpet and paint) on or around June 30th!
We also need to sell Raley Creek!
