History Plans

Aug 17, 2017

While just doing the History Memory Work alone is enough for the Foundations level of Classical Conversations, I have decided to dig a little deeper into American History with my girls this year basically through reading some good books together.

Here is the list of books that we will be reading together this year! If the book corresponds to a particular week’s Memory Work for Cycle 3, I will put the week number in parenthesis after the book title.

History Notebook

After reading a book, the girls will have the opportunity to draw, color or paint a picture about something they learned in their History Notebook. Their History Notebook is just a blank drawing pad I picked up at the Convention for $3.50 each! I bought Draw Write Now Book 5 for drawing ideas as it correlates well to a lot of Cycle 3’s history.

Read Alouds

I have several titles for Read Alouds that correlate to our History Memory Work!

Pedro’s Journal

The Thanksgiving Story

Pochahontas and the Strangers

A Letter to Mrs. Roosevelt

Other Resources

I have some fun resources that we will also enjoy this year as we study American History.

Story of the World Volume 3 and 4 - Last year we started listening to SOTW during lunch and it was a huge hit with the girls, so we will continue on with volumes 3 and 4 this year (which cover American History as well as other history that was happening all over the world).

Adventures in Odyssey For God and Country - We gave this to Little Bug for her birthday. Both girls will enjoy listening to this.

Liberty’s Kids The Complete Series DVD - I bought this a couple years ago while it was on sale on Amazon for $5. To add a little variety to our history lessons, I have planned for us to watch a Liberty’s Kids episode.
