Human Body Plans

Aug 16, 2017

This year we are doing Cycle 3 with Classical Conversations! I have been excited for this cycle since we began CC two years ago because in Cycle 3 we cover some of my favorite content to teach!

When I taught 4th grade in the public school, part of our 4th grade science was learning about the Human Body. I am thrilled that I get to teach the Human Body to my own children this year. Here are more detailed plans of what I am planning for this year:

Books

Of course we will be reading Usborne's Human Body Books...

(The Human Body sticker book is an excellent way to practice Memory Work. I ask a question and for a correct answer, they get a sticker to put on the book. My girls LOVE Sticker Book Memory Work review.)

...as well as Let's Read and Find Out Science Books about the Human Body! These books have been the core of our science "textbook" during the elementary school year. My girls enjoy reading and learning from these books.

Magic School Bus is another BIG favorite in our house right now. Even Sarge loves Magic School Bus! Cat in the Hat's Learning Library are another favorite. Not pictured is The Complete Set of Magic School Bus DVDs. There are several shows about the Human Body.

CC Community

Since Little Bug is crafty, I got her a Human Body coloring book. The CC Community uses My Body during weeks 7-12 as the children create a model of the human body systems! That is going to be so much fun!

Activities

Since my children are Magic School Bus obsessed right now, I bought the Magic School Bus experiments to do with them at home.

I came across this at a used children's clothing/toy store and snatched it up! The girls discovered this already and have enjoyed putting this skeleton floor puzzle together many times. Little Bug even dressed the skeleton one day, complete with jewelry!

In my public school classroom, I had a small area rug that I flipped over during our unit on the Human Body. I would draw the human heart with tape so that my students could walk through the human heart as blood flows through it. They loved that activity! I need to figure out how I can do this for my children. Our area rug in the living room is far to large to flip...but I will come up with some way for them to "walk through the human heart"!
