I love that year round schooling puts us at 2.5 months of school complete by the end of September!

Bible

We finished reading The Jesus Storybook Bible and we’ve started God’s Names. This book was given to me and I decided to read it to the girls during our Bible time. There are 20+ names of God that we will read about. The names of God reveal the character of God and I am excited to teach this to my children.

Classical Conversations

We are on a roll with our Memory Work. It never ceases to amaze me just how much my girls memorize each week! Even Sweet Pea is memorizing a lot for a Kindergartener. Our CC Review time is a favorite time of day. We review the week’s Memory Work and then spend 10-15 minutes on the subject of the day. This is where we learn more about the Memory Work through reading a book or doing an activity like this Adapt, Migrate & Hibernate Cut & Paste picture sort! I also downloaded Junior Learning Activity Book. I can print the pages I want us to do. There is a page for every subject except Latin. We don’t do every page every week (of course) but we have enjoyed the coloring pages for history, the geography pages, the skip counting pages and the English grammar pages.

Language Arts

Little Bug is on Lesson 35 of All About Reading Level 2. By the end of September, we were doing about a lesson per day. At this rate, we will probably complete Level 2 next month and then we will start All About Spelling Level 1! Little Bug is excited about spelling.

Sweet Pea is reading CVC words! She is flying through Confession of a Homeschooler’s K4/5 Kinder curriculum and excelling in it! She is also working through Phonics for Kindergarten and is halfway through.

We are continuing to work through the lowercase letters in Handwriting Without Tears. This jolly little fellow sits in his booster seat at the table and does his own writing (or chewing of the writing utensil).

Math

Time is a hard concept to learn, especially for the younger elementary age. We were at Grams & Gramps’ house and I got this idea to make a clock using a hoola hoop (the same one I used as a child - I won a hoola hoop contest at my elementary school in the 5th grade!) and a short and long stick for the minute and hour hands. My mom printed the numbers 1-12 on cardstock as well as 5, 10, 15, 20, etc. so that we could help Little Bug grasp the concept of telling time to the hour, half hour and quarter hour. I also need to be intentional in making real-life scenarios for Little Bug to tell time. For example, I could tell her, “Today during rest time you can have a snack at 3:15pm!” She would quickly learn what 3:15 looks like on the clock for a snack! Motivation is key for this girl in her learning.

Sweet Pea is nearly finished with the BJU K5 Math book! We will keep working on it until she has completed it (it’s only half of the origional book because Little Bug used the second half of the book her Kindergarten year) and then start work in another book. We are also having fun playing math games like this Roll & Cover Addition facts game.

Art

Our history this year is all about Medieval History so one afternoon we drew a castle using one of our Usborne drawing books!
