Our Homeschool Year in Review: What Worked and What Didn’t {2015-2016}
Jun 08, 2016
Time to briefly review our 2015-2016 Homeschool Curriculum! Here is what worked and what did not work for us!
What Worked
All About Reading Level 1
Considering Little Bug is reading chapter books and basically anything she can get her hands on, I would say AAR Level 1 successfully taught her to read!
Explode the Code
Explode the Code so nicely coordinates with AAR. It was a great enforcement to what she was learning in AAR and she enjoys doing the pages too which is a win-win!
A Reason for Handwriting K
When I asked Little Bug if she wanted me to find her another handwriting book to practice writing her letters again next year or if she just wanted to do ARFH K again, she chose doing ARFH K again!
Horizons Math
I had planned to finish up the K level and begin level 1 this year, but that didn’t happen because we took the break from Horizons to learn basic math facts (using Saxon 1). Horizons was good for Little Bug. She needs a spiral approach to math and Horizons provides that very well.
All About Reading Pre-Level
Sweet Pea has learned her letters and letter sounds and she had a lot of fun along the way learning them through AAR Pre-Level!
Ready-Made Preschool Level 1
At the beginning of this year, we finished up RMPK Level 1. Even though the girls are finished with preschool and I don’t see doing RMPK with a boy, our RMPK days aren’t over because they have a new product that will correlate perfectly with CC Cycle 3!
Measured Mom Handwriting & Math
I love this site for resources to use with my children! Sweet Pea’s fine motor skills were worked this year via the Measured Mom’s handwriting pages. Both girls enjoyed playing many of the math games on her site.
Classical Conversations Cycle 1
We jumped in to CC this year hoping just to get our feet wet. It wasn’t long into the year and I knew we were diving in for the long haul as the transformations CC had given our homeschool was nothing but positive! We are thrilled to begin Cycle 2 in the Fall.
What Didn't Work
Sonlight P4/5
Sonlight is a great homeschool program; CC just fit our homeschool goals perfectly and doing both Sonlight and CC felt like overkill. I love looking at the Sonlight catalog for Read Aloud ideas.
I will be sharing our 2016-2017 Curriculum Choices soon!
