Language Arts

Little Bug asked me if she could read from the Bible one day instead of doing AAR. I, of course, said YES because that is, after all, why I teach my children to read, right?!

She still loves AAR and we've completed the first 12 lessons of AAR Level 2. We will continue through the summer but slow down the pace a bit.

The big news this month is that Sweet Pea completed All About Reading Pre-Level on May 26th! The last day we went over all the letter sounds using our Leap Frog Letters and she knew all of them! I guess this means she is officially a BIG Kindergartener!

Little Bug actually did her last lesson with her! I think this is proof that AAR WORKS! My oldest, who learned to read from doing AAR Level 1, read from the teacher's book of AAR Pre-Level to complete the last lesson with her little sister! Pretty awesome!

Math

Little Bug completed Horizons Math K!!! This has been a long time coming and, truthfully, I probably could have just skipped over alot of the K and put her in the 1st grade level sooner, but I decided pounding those K concepts into her mind over and over again would not hurt! I feel she has a solid foundation now of math concepts and we will move to Horizon 1 at the start of the new school year!

Last Day of School

We celebrated our Last Day of School on May 25th by taking the girls to a donut shop! They had never had a donut before and talked about this trip for several weeks leading up to it! It was a fabulous end to a fabulous school year!

As I am writing this, we are 1 week into our summer plans and that is going well! It is nice to take a relaxed approach to the month of June which gives the girls a little break but still keeps the momentum of "school" going year round so that it just becomes a part of our life.

As I am busy making plans for the 2016-2017 school year, I am looking forward to what is to come!
