Pumpkin, Pumpkin {Letter P, Pumpkin Life Cycle}

Letter P
The last week of October we did another Ready-Made Preschool Level 1 lesson. Level 1 is designed for the 3-year-old and the book this week, Pumpkin Pumpkin is an excellent book for introducing and teaching the concept of the pumpkin life cycle to a 3 year old. The words are simple but by the end of the book the child has an understanding of the pumpkin life cycle. Sweet Pea loved the book and by the end of the week, she could basically “read” the book to me.
Sweet Pea glued pink and purple pom-poms onto her Letter P and then she also did her Do-A-Dot Letter P.
Pumpkin and Pig Crafts
There were two fun crafts included in this week’s lessons. One was a paper bag pumpkin craft. Sweet Pea spent a couple days painting all sides of a brown paper bag. Then she crinkled up scrap paper we had to stuff the bag. We tied the green ribbon around the top and then she painted the stump brown and we had a pumpkin! She got to make a pig craft with paper plates. She had some help from her sister on that one.
Pumpkin Life Cycle, Pig Patterns
I through in a cut-and-paste Pumpkin Life Cycle activity. This was not part of RMPK but I wanted Sweet Pea to have an activity on the pumpkin life cycle. She knew exactly what order to glue everything. We had some pig cut outs (from RMPK) and worked on making pig patterns. We did some ABAB patterns and AAB patterns. Sweet Pea is catching on well to patterns.
We’ve completed the capital letters from All About Reading Pre-Level. I am taking the month of November and December to do thematic preschool units with Sweet Pea! I am excited to use these units again with Sweet Pea as I first used them with Little Bug 2-3 years ago!
