The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree {Letter A, Apples, Animals, Apple Pie}

{Letter A}

The last week of August Sweet Pea did a Ready-Made Preschool lesson from Level 1 that we started last year and we are still working on it. I love RMPK and so do my girls. Little Bug still wants to participate with RMPK at age six and I let her. I wrote a review of RMPK here (I wasn’t compensated. I just love RMPK that much!).

We read The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree by Gail Gibbons. The story takes you through all four seasons and tells what is happening with Arnold’s apple tree during each season. This is an excellent book teaching season and the life of an apple tree from it’s dormant phase in the winter to harvest in the fall! I tweaked the Letter A craft a little because I didn’t think apple prints would show up well on the Letter A. Sweet Pea made apples by putting her finger in red paint and then making a fingerprint on the Letter A. She did her Do-A-Dot letter A with a red Do-A-Dot marker. We also enjoyed reading several other books about apples: Johnny Appleseed, Apple Farmer Annie and How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World (This is the apple-themed book for Level 2 of RMPK. You can see Little Bug’s week of lessons with that book here.)

{Favorite Apple}

Sweet Pea got to taste a red, yellow and green apple! Then she colored the first apple red, because that was her favorite apple. The yellow apple was her second favorite and the green apple was her least favorite.

{Apple Tree Art, Animal Counting Book}

Sweet Pea got to make an Apple Tree by painting and coloring. We painted her hand and arm brown to make the apple tree trunk and branches. Then Sweet Pea asked her sister to help her draw and color the leaves. Sweet Pea dipped her finger in red paint to make the apples. Some had already fallen off the tree!

Sweet Pea also got to make an Animal Counting Book. Each page had a number (1-5) and she was to put that many animal stickers on each page. She did this activity independently while I was at the door talking to someone who had knocked. I came back and she had completed it!

{Apple Pie}

Any time there is cooking involved, we always get Grams involved! The girls always love making Apple Pies with Grams and Sweet Pea was so excited for her turn. Little Bug chose to craft during this time and I was glad Sweet Pea got to make her apple pie with just Grams!

We had fun with our Apple theme this past week! We will go back to All About Reading Pre Level next week, but will do a Fall themed RMPK lesson in September!
