My Book List
Jul 24, 2015
I read many books in highschool and through my college and teaching years. When Little Bug was born, I didn’t make time to read except occasionally. I want to make reading a priority for myself again. Here is what I am currently reading and what is waiting on the shelf.
Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood is what I am currently reading for my Quiet Time. It is an 11 week devotional Bible study. I am reading this with my best friend from high school. We are meeting weekly to talk about what we have read. We are both really enjoying this study. All Scripture is written in the book, so all you need to do this study is the book. It’s very transportable to stick in your purse or diaper bag to do when you get a moment or two.
This summer I have been learning all about Classical Conversations and the Classical Model of Education. These two books have been paramount in my learning. To anyone who is wanting to know more about CC and the Classical Model of Education, I highly recommend starting out by reading these two books. Classical Christian Education Made Approachable is an excellent book to read to learn the Big Picture of Classical Education. There are also chapters in this book devoted to the Big Picture of Classical Conversations. The Core was written by the founder of Classical Conversations. The Core has been an extremely eye opening experience for me and it has transformed the way I want to teach my children in these early, foundational years of learning (elementary years). The Core takes you through all subjects and describes in detail how you can classically teach your children each subject.
The Busy Homeschool Mom’s Guide to Daylight by Heidi St. John is a book I picked up at the Homeschool Convention in May. I heard Heidi speak several times during the Convention and she is so encouraging. I wanted to purchase a book that I could read that would be an encouragement to me as a homeschool mom. I started reading this pretty soon after we got home from Convention and I need to pick it back up and finish.
The Best Yes has come highly recommended to me by several friends so I ordered a copy off Amazon. I have not started it yet. My connection group at church has a girls accountablity group that meets monthly. We voted and decided to read Restless together. We’ve just read the first two chapters so far, but by our next meeting in August I will have read Part 1 of the book.
