Valentine’s {Letter H, Hearts, Numbers 1-10, Sorting}

{Letter of the Week}

I couldn’t locate a copy of the book for this week so we just read Twas the Night Before Valentine’s Day. The letter of the week was Letter H. Sweet Pea punched holes (with my help) in to her Letter H and then she glued the hearts on to the letter. I asked her if there were more holes or hearts and she was correct in saying there were more holes (some were covered by hearts). She did her Do-A-Dot Letter H.

{Hearts & Valentines}

I got a cold at the beginning of this week and then Sweet Pea and Sarge had doctor appointments during the week, so we had only done two days of this week’s lessons by Friday. The weekend of Valentine’s I got the last two activities from the week out and laid everything on the kitchen table and let Little Bug and Sweet Pea have fun together making a heart craft (this was Sweet Pea’s) and a Valentine (that was Little Bugs – look at that handwriting!!!).

{Candy Heart Math}

In between sickness and doctor appointments we managed to do the Candy Heart Math. Little Bug was home this day and joined in with us. I bought three small boxes of the Conversation Heart candy for $1 and we used it for these learning activities which both girls really enjoyed. We put the number circles in to the muffin pan and then Sweet Pea had to count candy hearts and place them with the correct number. When it was Little Bug’s turn, I had her count by 2’s to make it more challenging for her.

Then we removed the numbers from the muffin pan and the girls sorted the candies by color. I asked Sweet Pea which color had the least. She easily knew the answer was green. Then I decided to take it a step further and we made a graph with the candies on the floor!

We played lots of games of Hungry Hungry Hippos this week since the Letter of the Week was H! We gave this game to Sweet Pea for Christmas and both girls love playing.
