Homeschool Highlights {November}

Dec 11, 2014

November has come and gone and here are the highlights from that month.

We have now completed the first 5 lessons of All About Reading Level 1 which means Little Bug has now read two stories all by herself! Little Bug continues to enjoy making words with the letter tiles, playing the games and doing the phonics worksheets. We played The Measured Mom’s Beginning Sounds Blackout game. And yes, a lot of homeschool was done in pj’s this month!

Little Bug continued to work on writing her letters! Sweet Pea likes to make letters with our wood pieces.

Little Bug is doing super with her Horizons Kindergarten math. We are doing three lessons per week and this month we learned about money (pennies & dimes), addition, the number after, between and before, time (to the hour) and writing numerals. Little Bug needed some practice in recognizing numbers over 10. We played a life sized game outside using paperplates and a die. I wrote the numbers 21-40 on paperplates and laid them out on the grass. Little Bug rolled the die, moved that number of spaces and then had to identify the number she was standing on! We also did The Measured Mom’s Bear Counter Pattern Stripes.

During the month of November we learned all about the Cherokee Indians by reading …If You Lived with the Cherokee. We also looked up YouTube videos about the Cherokee. Before we started learning about the Cherokee we finished up our unit on the Human Body by making a model of the organs in the human body.

We did two Thanksgiving crafts. We made turkeys from a little foam kit I had on hand. The girls both spent so much time on their turkeys! We opened up a Turkey Windsock I had. One wing was broken so Little Bug and Grams sowed it back on! Little Bug loves any opportunity to sow. Little Bug wanted to see the windsock blow in the wind so she got her fan and pointed it at the Turkey Windsock!

After reading Give Thanks to the Lord, we made I’m Thankful Turkeys! The girls told me 5 things/people they are thankful for and I wrote them on the turkey feathers.

Every month is always filled with lots of playtime! The girls had fun playing several times with Playdoh, toothpicks and beads. They also enjoy going on the deck with buckets and bowls of water, kitchen utensils and several toys that can get wet.

And now it’s December. We will continue on with school most of this month since we are already “behind”. Soon I will write a post about how school is going to change around here come January. These changes were certainly not in my plans for this year, but given our current circumstances, I am excited about the upcoming changes.
