Jim Weiss CDs {Review}
Jul 12, 2014
Last year when we went to the Homeschool Convention for the first time I had two friends walk me literally through the entire vendor hall. When we got to the Jim Weiss exhibit I was told that I should definitely buy at least one of his CDs. I had never heard of him before that day, but I went ahead and bought Animal Tales for Little Bug.
Jim Weiss is a story-teller who brings classic literature, mythical tales and history to life for children. Animal Tales became a steady source of entertainment in our family over the past year.
We got to meet Jim Weiss at this year’s Homeschool Convention and we took advantage of their Special and bought 4 CDs and got one for free. We knew it would be worth every single penny we spent and it has been!
Why our family loves Jim Weiss stories
- The stories are captivating – After we bought our first Jim Weiss CD, Little Bug would, on her own, go into our playroom, turn on the CD and play quietly with her toys while listening to Jim Weiss tell classic animal stories like The Tortoise and the Hare, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Lion and the Mouse. We could hardly believe our eyes as we saw her quiet and captivated by these stories! Those of you who have read my blog for any length of time have probably picked up that Little Bug is not naturally quiet and captivated by anything for a long length of time!
- They are educational – Children are exposed to classical pieces of literature, mythical tales and history through Jim Weiss CDs. We are wired for stories. Jesus often taught throughout the Bible through stories. We have passed down stories through the generations. Story-telling is so powerful!
- They are a wonderful Room Time and/or Rest Time activity for children - For about a year now, I’ve been thinking about what we would allow Little Bug to do during naptime when she stops sleeping. More TV Time? Get an iPad for her to play educational games on? Neither of those options were ones I was thrilled about but, as it turns out, I didn’t have to figure out what she could do because Little Bug made the decision on her own! At Rest Time, she listens to stories and plays quietly with toys on her bed for 2 hours! During Room Time she can often be found listening to her Jim Weiss stories too.
- These stories aren’t just for children; adults enjoy them too - It can get boring to listen to children’s music every time you get in the car, but listening to Jim Weiss stories is entertaining even for adults! </ol>
We will be adding to our Jim Weiss CD collection every year at the Homeschool Convention!
