Since I wasn’t planning on doing a math curriculum with Little Bug during her PK4 year, I bought Hands-On Thinking Skills from The Critical Thinking Company. If you purchase the Hands-On Thinking Skills Book & Manipulative set it comes with the Hands-On Thinking Skills book and the three manipulatives: pattern blocks, attribute blocks and interlocking cubes.

Hands-On Thinking Skills is for grades Kindergarten through 1st grade and it develops vocabulary, reading, reasoning and analytical skills.

Hands-On Thinking Skills covers:

  • Logical Thinking
  • Identifying Attributes
  • Similarities and Differences
  • Sequences
  • Classifications
  • Analogies
  • Following Directions
  • Visual Tracking
  • Spatial Awareness
  • Geometry Concepts
  • and much more!
  • </ul>

Every activity page has the child building manipulative relationships using attribute blocks, pattern blocks or interlocking cubes. The activities are sequentially developed, building on each other as you work through the book.

There are four sections of the book: Similarities and Differences, Sequences, Classifications and Analogies. During Little Bug’s PK4 year we worked through the first section completing 71 of the 81 activity sheets. I did not intend to finish this book in one year since it is for children in grades K-1st. We will continue to work through these activities during her Kindergarten and 1st Grade years too!

Little Bug enjoys Hands-On Thinking Skills and tells us that it makes her smart! She likes working with the manipulatives. .

It doesn’t take long to complete one activity page.

Hands-On Thinking Skills has been good for Little Bug this past year and I am looking forward to doing more of it with her soon.
