Before Five in a Row {Blueberries for Sal}
Jul 07, 2014
When we aren’t outside or playing with friends, we have enjoyed spending some time rowing Blueberries for Sal. Blueberries for Sal is an adorable book about a mother and her little girl, Sal, and a Mama bear and her baby cub who all go out one day to pick blueberries to store for winter. There is a mix up and suddenly mother and babies are switched and they must find their way back to each other and all while picking blueberries.
My girls could eat their weight in blueberries so what better way to begin this row than to go blueberry picking?! We actually went on our last day of school to celebrate the ending of our first year homeschooling and the beginning of our summer break. We left with two pounds picked by ME! All the berries the girls picked went straight from the bush to their bellies.
After our trip to the mountains we got into rowing Blueberries for Sal more. Little Bug enjoyed playing this Blueberry Picking game. This was a great game to practice letter sounds and I had her “pick” her blueberries off her bush with tweezers to help strengthen her fine motor skills. This game kept her attention for a long while and we really enjoyed playing it together.
Sweet Pea made this Positional Words book. This was a great tool to use to teach her positional words such as: behind, under, on top of, up and down.
Sweet Pea searched for all the lowercase letter b’s and put a marker on them.
Little Bug matched the rhyming words.
The girls picked blueberries (blue pom poms) and put them in their buckets.
Next we will be rowing Corduroy!
