Preschool Read Alouds
Jun 30, 2014
Little Bug has always loved books and last year I thought it would be a great idea to introduce chapter book Read Alouds to her. I wasn’t sure if she would be ready to listen to chapter books considering she was just four years old at the time, but she got lost in the stories and was eager to read more! This is what we read during her PK4 year:
The Boxcar Children – Little Bug was intrigued with The Boxcar Children right away. So much so that we read two more Boxcar Children books! I think The Boxcar Children books are a perfect way to introduce chapter book read alouds to children.
The Firehouse Mystery (The Boxcar Children #56) – Little Bug loves the mystery component in The Boxcar Children books.
Bus Station Mystery (The Boxcar Children #18) – Another great story of The Boxcar Children’s adventures!
Magic Tree House Fact Tracker #7 Titanic – Magic Tree House books are another wonderful first chapter book to read to young children. We actually read this non-fiction book about the Titanic first before reading the story companion, Tonight on the Titanic. Little Bug became fascinated with the Titanic and both of these books provided a perfect way for us to teach her about this historic event.
A Christmas Carol (Great Illustrated Classics) – The Great Illustrated Classics are a perfect read aloud chapter book for preschoolers because they have chapters but they also have pictures. We read this story around Christmastime!
The Jungle Book (Great Illustrated Classics) – This was the first chapter book Dave read to Little Bug. A classic that all children enjoy!
The Swiss Family Robinson (Great Illustrated Classics) – Another classic that Little Bug enjoyed.
