{Books We Read}

During the week of April 21-25 our Ready-Made Preschool book was Umbrella. This book brought a multicultural aspect to our learning this week. The story is about a little girl whose parents lived in Japan and then moved to America. The little girl anxiously awaits for the time when she can use her new umbrella and rain boots she received for her 3rd birthday. Little Bug could relate to the little girl so well because Little Bug loves to get her rainboots on and grab her umbrella and go play in the rain! We also read America The Beautiful as we talked about the American Flag.

{Letter of the Week}

The Letter of the Week was Letter Uu. Little Bug really enjoyed her letter u craft this week. She had two America flag stickers and five umbrella cut outs to use to decorate her Letter u. Then, because we had talked about the colors of the American flag, she wanted to decorate the Letter u with a red and blue marker. She said the lines she drew all over the Letter u were fireworks! She also made the Letter Uu with play-doh, in salt and shaving cream and with her Do-a-Dot markers. She also made her Letter Uu page in her ABC Book.

{Geography, American Flag, Umbrellas}

We had a fun time looking up places that were talked about in the book Umbrella on our globe. We found Japan and the USA. One of our lessons was all about the American Flag. So we took a trip outside because I knew several of our neighbors have the flag flying in their yard. We walked over to the neighbor’s flag and we counted the number of stripes on the flag and noticed there are 13 stripes, 7 that are red and 6 that are white. I just told her there are 50 stars on the flag to represent the fifty states of America. We didn’t count those! Then Little Bug had a flag craft to make. She had 50 star stickers to put on her flag and she put them all on herself! I wanted to introduce her to the Pledge of Allegiance so I told her I was going to teach it to her. She got a huge smile on her face and told me, “I already know it!!”. Sure enough, she did! She said it perfectly and I can apparently thank Awanas for teaching her that! I sang the Star Spangled Banner for her and she danced around the homeschool room with two small flags we have. That was a really fun lesson for both of us!

Another day Little Bug got to make an umbrella craft from a paperplate and tissue paper.

{Water Cycle}

There was one day this week that Little Bug did school with her Grams and Gramps. I love how portable Ready-Made Preschool is. I simply pulled out her workbox for that day, put it in the car and then Grams and Gramps had everything they needed to teach Little Bug (and Sweet Pea joined them!) that day. The lesson was all about the water cycle. Gramps had a ball I am sure teaching them about the water cycle with a pot of boiling water on the stove. Then Little Bug had a watercycle craft to make. A few days later it looked like rain and Little Bug explained the water cycle to me! I was amazed!
