{Books We Read}

Our Ready-Made Preschool book was Regards to the Man in the Moon. This was a cute book about some kids using what they find in a junkyard to make a rocket that takes them on an outer space adventure. Because of the space theme, we checked out five books about Outer Space at the library. Little Bug was very much into the Magic School Bus books. Dave read the chapter book with her and I read the other books with her.

{Bible Time}

During our Bible Time we read about the story of Ruth and Naomi. Dave ordered My ABC Bible Verses to read during family devotions at breakfast. This book is excellent and provides great discussions around the breakfast table! If Dave doesn’t sit down and start reading right away one of the girls will always ask for him to read from the book. There is a Bible verse for each letter, a story, several questions to get the girls thinking and a prayer.

{Letter of the Week}

Our Letter of the Week was Letter Ss. Little Bug made a Solar System Letter Ss craft. She attempted to write the Letter Ss in salt. (That was very hard!) She did her Do-A-Dot Letter Ss page and made her Ss page in her ABC Book.

{Solar System, Sun, Patterns, Counting backwards}

We had a lot of fun learning about the Solar System this week! Little Bug got to put space stickers on a paper plate and then we tacked the sun to the center. The purpose of this activity was to teach her that everything in space revolves around the Sun. She painted ten stars red, white and blue and then we used these stars to work on AB, AAB and ABC patterns. This is a skill she has long ago mastered so we didn’t spend a lot of time with this. She enjoyed making a Sun pendant using sand although she was highly disappointed when the sand mixed all together and you couldn’t see her design anymore. We worked on counting backwards from 10 which she learned quickly. We pretended we were on an outer space mission when I hid her stars around the house, she counted backwards from 10 and then went around finding all her stars. We used our globe and a flashlight to demonstrate how the earth revolves around the Sun which makes our days and nights. She explained to me what was happening when the sun (flashlight) was shinning on one half of the earth (it was daytime for us and night time in China, she told me! How she knows China is on the other side of world, I do not know!!).

{Bob Books}

I had the Beginning Readers BOB Books set in my Amazon wish list for a while now. Since Little Bug has expressed some interest in trying to read some CVC words, I decided to purchase this set and she how she did on the first book. The first book is called Mat and many of the words are in the –at family. Little Bug read through the book with some help from me. She wasn’t too interested nor did a light bulb go off with her in reading this first book, so I haven’t brought these little readers out since. The time will come. I don’t think she’s there quite yet. Whenever she does show interest in learning to actually read I think these little books will be a great starting point for her!

{Cooking with Grams}

Grams loves to cook with the girls and the girls love to cook with their Grams! On this day Grams had a Gluten Free Biscuit recipe that she wanted to try for Little Bug. The biscuits were edible and that’s about all you could say about them! Little Bug enjoyed them and the rest of us tolerated them. Grams is always so sweet to try gluten free recipes for Little Bug. The girls had so much fun mixing in all the ingredients.
