Books in {almost} Every Room
Oct 02, 2013
One day I looked around my house and realized that I have books in nearly every room! It was certainly not intentional, but I think it sends a very important message to the girls: We love books! Reading is fun!
In the playroom we have a cubby on the bookshelf that is mostly books that have a CD that we can use to listen to the story.
This is a little basket of books that is either in the playroom or homeschool room. It contains all the books that go with our week’s theme. These were all our bear books to go with our RMPK book, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.
More books in the playroom. I recently went through the toys and got rid of a lot and replaced them with baskets of books. The books on the left are animal themed and the books on the right are our classic board books that we all love.
This basket sits on our fireplace and holds our library books, books that go along with our Bible story for the week and Read Aloud books.
Another basket of books that is in the living room. It just holds random books that the girls love to read.
Under the coffee table there are two more baskets of books. The left holds ABC books and the right holds books that have to do with shapes, colors and numbers.
We recently moved a small bookshelf into the entrance foyer of our home and it has a spot for our Children’s Bibles.
Our main home library has found a new home in the corner of our master bedroom. It was in Wesley’s room and, to give him more space in there, we decided this bookshelf would fit perfect in our master bedroom. I love having children’s books in my bedroom! It that strange?! Little Bug loves to grab a book and we read on our bed. (That empty spot on the wall is awaiting our family picture that we will take this fall. The one on the left is from our engagement pictures, the one on the right was our family picture when Little Bug was 18 months old.)
And then, of course, the girls each have books in their bedrooms. Little Bug’s are on her bookshelf in her closet (which also has toys). Little Bug has all the Disney, Dr. Suess and Berenstain Bear books in her room.
And Sweet Pea has two drawers of her dresser that are full of our board books.
We seriously cannot read to our children too much!
I was talking to a mom stressing over feeling the pressure to do Pinterest ideas with her preschooler for “school”. To anyone in this boat, I say STOP.
Just S-T-O-P.
It truly is enough to just read to your child daily!!!! It is truly all they need, preschool-age. They don’t need the cutesy crafts. Sure, those are fun. I do them. We enjoy them, but reading to my girls is what is SO important academically in their preschool years.
Books teach more to our children than we realize! Fill your home with them!
(Most of our books have come from consignment shops.)
