Valentine’s Week

Feb 28, 2013

The first day of Valentine’s Week was spent making Valentine’s for family and friends!

Little Bug made these for her friends at preschool. She stamped a heart on each Valentine using a heart-shaped sponge and red paint. Then I wrote, “Happy Valentine’s Day! Your friend, Little Bug”. We cut an opening in the heart to be able to slip a tootsie roll pop in! She took these to school for her Valentine Party!

Little Bug and Sweet Pea made these to send to their grandparents, Uncle Wesley and Aunt Amanda! I am actually not sure what I was thinking when I thought it would be a good idea to paint a 3 yr old and 1 yr old’s feet 8 times (so that is 16 feet)! My kitchen looked like a crime scene after we were through!

After we were done I asked Little Bug, “Did you have fun making those?”and she enthusiastically replied, “Yes!!!”. Ok, I guess it was worth all the mess and they did turn out so cute!

Little Bug made a Tissue Paper Heart. Contact paper, construction paper and tissue paper is all you need to make this adorable craft!

We hung this on the kitchen window so the sunlight could shine through.

Little Bug painted a heart to find a Secret Valentine Message!

She had the biggest smile on her face once she figured out what the message (from Mommy!) said! I wrote with a white crayon on a piece of paper and then Little Bug painted with watercolors and the message appeared.

We played with Valentine Candy Hearts, which Little Bug of course loved. I let her eat 3 before we got started.

First she did a Candy Heart sort where she sorted the candy hearts by color.

We worked on a Candy Heart Graph and talked about which had the most, the least and the same number of candy hearts. I used the word “tallest” and “shortest” this time and I think she understood better this time.

Little Bug used all her senses (sight, hearing, smelling, touching and tasting) to do the Sweetheart Observations.

We said this Bible verse together and talked a lot about it.

Love each other as I have loved you. John 15:12

We played an ABC Heart Matching game. She matched the capital letters to the lower case letters.

Little Bug matched the word to the picture.

She did a Valentine pre-writing page.

Over the weekend we finished up Valentine Week by making a Crayon Shavings Heart. Daddy got in on the fun and he and Little Bug made crayon shavings together.

All the shavings.

Little Bug spread the shavings onto wax paper and then ironed (with my help) the wax paper to make the crayon shavings melt.

I had the iron a little too hot (which is the result of that big black spot).
