U Week!
Sep 01, 2012
We started U week by doing the Do-A-Dot letter Uu. This was the first time Little Bug used Do-A-Dot markers and she loved it.
I love the way Little Bug’s U turned out because it is a picture of her personality. She started very precisely doing each dot and then, she all of a sudden, started doing them very fast and as a result wasn’t as accurate. But that’s how this girl does life – she is in the fast lane at all times. I kept telling her to “slow down” and take the time to do her work well!
Do-A-Dot markers I bought from here.
I was amazed at Little Bug when she did this Umbrella pattern activity! She basically did it with minimal help from me!
I cut out an umbrella from construction paper and Little Bug glued it onto another sheet of construction paper. Then Little Bug squeezed drops of glue all over the paper. We hung the umbrella up on the blinds which made the glue run down like raindrops!
Once the glue had run enough, we put the umbrella on the table. When the glue dried, we had raindrops! She loved watching the glue run down the paper.
We read Inside Outside Upside Down and Great Day for Up.
I made Little Bug a “U finder” (twist a pipe cleaner around pen) and while we read she found all the letter Uu’s in the book!
We read Inside Outside Upside Down under the table!
We played a game called “Upside Down Cups”. I would ask Little Bug a question like, “How does it make you feel when…Daddy comes home from work?…you get a boo-boo?” and she would flip the cup to show the smiley face or the frowny face.
We played another game called “How Many Fish in the Sea?”
Little Bug picked a number and then put that number of fish under the water in the sea.
Then we did some simple addition of fish who were under the sea. I would make up stories about the fish and she would get really into it.
We made a handprint umbrella.
Little Bug and Uncle played with an umbrella that used to be mine when I was a little girl!
That’s me (on the left) and two of my cousins playing with our umbrellas! I think I was about 7-8 years old in that picture.
