My name is Elaine. My faith in Jesus Christ and my family is my world. I have a degree in Elementary Education and taught 4th grade in the public school system before I married my husband in 2007. I loved teaching but my heart was longing for the day I would become a wife and mother. Before our first anniversary we learned having a baby was not going to happen in the most conventional way for us. Through events that only God could orchestrate, we adopted three children between the years of 2009 and 2014. You can read about our infertility and adoption journeys over at God’s Faithfulness Through Infertility, which is a blog that I started in 2008 to chronicle our infertility story. When I am not busy homeschooling, I enjoy writing, reading and ministering to others who are going through infertility.
While I am busy with the children every day, Dave is in our home office working hard as a Computer Programmer. The opportunity for him to work from home came to us unexpectedly at the beginning of 2014 and it has been a huge blessing to our entire family. Dave is very talented in what he does. He is extremely smart and is a very quick learner. We’ve been married for 8 years and in those 8 years we have been through a lot as a couple. We have learned that our God is a God of redemption and we are thankful that God has used our trials to bring us closer to Him and to each other.
Meet Little Bug
Little Bug is six years old. She has really matured over the past year. She is a very active child who moves at the speed of lightening, however, this girl loves stories. She will sit and read with me for hours. Little Bug’s fire-ball personality sometimes makes me want to pull my hair out, but I know God is going to use her determined spirit to accomplish much in this lifetime. Little Bug can be found playing dress up inside with her sister and playing in the mud outside. She loves to meet new people and make new friends.
Meet Sweet Pea
Sweet Pea is 4 years old! She is our quiet and reserved child, although, over the past year, she has been coming out of her shell and shocking us all with her boldness! Sweet Pea is the sweetest little thing you will meet and her constant smile has been her signature since she was three weeks old. Sweet Pea loves her new role as big sister!
Sarge joined our family after a very surprise, unexpected adoption in 2014. He has overcome a lot in his first year of life and at 1 year old, he is thriving! He is joy to all who meet him. His personality seems to be very laid back, which is a very good thing considering he has two very dramatic older sisters!
Why We Homeschool
Our decision to homeschool came easily. Before I had children, I knew I wanted to homeschool them. I am so thankful that Dave supports my desire to homeschool and that homeschooling is becoming our family lifestyle. We desire to bring our children up in the Lord, teaching them in the way that they should go by instilling the truths of God’s Word into their hearts as we go about our days. Homeschooling provides our family the best opportunity to do this. We are in our 3rd year of homeschooling and our first year of Classical Conversations. I want to savor these early days of our homeschool! These days are tiring at times but ultimately these years are precious. Before I know it, they will be a distant memory. I want to be able to look back on the years I had with my children and know I faithfully instructed them in the way of the Lord.
I started this blog as a way to record the ups and downs of homeschooling, the curriculum we have used and loved or disliked, the Read Alouds we’ve shared, some of the fun activities we’ve done, the exciting places we visited and whatever else this journey brings us. My posts do NOT have affiliate links. This blog does not bring my family any income whatsoever. It is simply a journal. I pray it brings encouragement and inspiration to those who read it and, above all, glory to God.
